Some of you may be aware of a site I've mentioned before, Giveaway of the Day. They give free full version software with the catch that it's only available for one day. Some products they have aren't so good but the Sothink company consistently gets good reviews.
Today the giveaway is Sothink SWF Quicker, which you can get to by clicking here. I have not used this program yet, but you can bet I'm downloading it right now! Here's a list of what it can do, from GOTD's site:
- Support applying Flash filters to add special animating visual effects to texts, buttons and movie clips.
- Support exporting the movie as Animated GIF file and Windows AVI video.
- Provide Object Snapping, Pixel Snapping and Snap Alignment to align objects.
- Support creating Shape morph effect (transform one shape to another).
- Support creating photo morph effect (transform one image to another).
- Provide various built-in Flash Album, Banner, Navigation Button and Slide Show templates.
- Provide a group of tools for you to create vector graphics and texts in the way of What You See Is What You Get.
- Support importing various kinds of media types, such as AI, MP3, MPEG, AVI, MOV, etc.
- Fully support syntax of Flash ActionScript 2.0 to control the animations.
- Provide an intelligent ActionScript Editor, which supports Syntax Highlighting, Auto Completion and Dynamic Prompt.
- Support specifying keyframes to generate Tween Animations automatically.
Provide a large number of built-in animated effects. - Support importing and editing SWF files and the EXE files compressed from SWF files.
It does many things but the one I'm interested in, of course, is the vector graphic and text creator! I've loved creating Flash movies for some time but haven't had a recent copy of the Adobe Flash software in years. That part will be fun to play with, too! But I liked it before for creating resizable graphics in, it seemed easier then than Inkscape is now to create simple graphics - I have no idea how this software compares to Adobe Flash but I'll soon know! Anyway, I thought I'd jump on here and let you know about this in case you're like I am and love trying out new programs to help in our Cricut craziness!
It's very simple to install, just download (I suggest running instead of opening it) and run the program, copy the name and key code into the registration box and that's all there is to it. It's good for as long as you have it on the computer but if your computer crashes you'll just have to hope they'll rerun the giveaway or buy it! You can also install it on as many computers as you like - today only! Happy experimenting!

So how do you like it? I didn't read the SCAL users emails until it was too late to get it free (but I just started teaching myself Inkscape so I probably don't to try another program anyway) so you'll have to let us know how it goes for you.
I haven't been able to do more than open the program and look briefly at the window and controls. It looks almost exactly what I remember my Flash program looking like!
I got some feedback on my group though that although it does do vector graphics, it may not be able to output anything directly to SCAL, as I'd hoped. I hope I didn't jump the gun! But regardless, it might be a useful program for graphics. I liked creating logos and such with Flash in the past when I was doing web design. But I'll look at the program when my company leaves and try to be more informative later!
